It's my anniversary!
How long have you been a nurse? When's your license anniversary??? .

Today is my 5th year nursing license anniversary. May 28, 2013 the CA BRN released my license and said I, ME, was legally able to take care of other people 🥴😬. After a crazy entry level master's program...I was a nurse! Chile.... is been an EXPERIENCE since I started. .
Before 2020, I realized my urge to change my life was too strong to ignore anymore. So much has happened since January (Covid for sure and patient violence to name a couple). I was honestly just going to quit. But God! There was another plan...after 4 years and 7 months, the major PIVOT I desire presented itself. I'm sharing this because the scenario you want will not always present itself in the way YOU desire. Sometimes it will come at you hard and fast and you'll know it's been made for you. I've got 13 weeks to make this thang do what it do😉 I pray that we all trust the process and celebrate our small victories as we persevere towards the life we DESERVE.

More than ever before, I have come to realize how essential I am. Not to an organization or a profession, but to myself. I am essential to ME. I must show up and FIGHT for my BETTER in order for others to come to terms with the fact that those are the ONLY terms. Come correct or don't come at all. To all my fellow RNs, I see you. My patient told me that after hearing me speak to and deal with her neighbor on the other side of the curtain. I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes. I didn't know I needed that validation, but I guess I did. That's why you don't see many photos of me at work. I can't imagine being associated with something I feel so weak at. I was doubting my career choice. .
I always feel like people can see right through me. See my anxiety, see my lack of knowledge after almost 5 years, see that I'm just trying to fake the confidence I wish I really had on the floor. But she affirmed that some people just have attributes that make them a good nurse, and I possess them. God gave them to me and they are manifesting during my 12 hr shift. After last weeks debacle, I KNEW it was time to move on. I didn't feel fulfilled, and that patient violence incident was the icing on the pivot cake. Buuuut...I have been affirmed in a place that was withering away. And I will take this TRUTH with me wherever I end up. I AM A GOOD NURSE.

What are you remembering to prioritize during this time?

The government says we're essential, but make sure you prioritize what's essential to you. If that's your physical health, your family, or more recently for me- energy and mental health- those things come first. You can't give completely from a broken or empty cup. You'll either spill haphazardly all over yourself and others or can't give at all. Make sure you're still protecting your peace (and airways) during this time. You need you more than anything. Remember that.

Reminiscing on traveling. This was my first international trip I took as a new RN. I went to Freeport, Bahamas. Those @travelzoo deals come in handy when you still need to travel on a budget. I remember I wanted to figure out a way to bring this root home with me (I love interior design). I can't wait to travel again and explore new places. First stop, back to Ghana...then a very long tour of Mexico. I'm saving all my money because I won't be home when this is all over. Ya feel me?
